Criticism by European countries of Libya over its alleged mistreatment of migrants is "unacceptable", United Nations backed premier Fayez al-Sarraj told Austrian news agency Apa in an interview on Monday
"We ask for countries who are concerned about migrants in detention centres to help us directly, take them in themselves or to help us send them back to their countries of origin," Sarraj said.
The United Nations and human rights groups have deplored the dire conditions in which migrants including women and children are held in overcrowded centres In Libya - a situation they say is fuelled by support by Italy and the European Union for the Libyan coastguard's interception and return to Libya of the migrants.
